Let me start off by saying this truly was NOT what I was wearing when I found out I was famous. But damn, it feels good to be famous. So about last week.
I’m at my daughter Emma’s soccer practice with my standard crew of mom friends when Sarah (and I cannot stress this enough, Sarah is NEVER complimenting anyone’s wardrobe-y things) reaches over and taps my arm and exclaims “Oh my god, where is that shirt from?! Is it that new Everlane line? ?” Keep reading to see THE SHIRT and my caption got more likes than any selfie I’ve ever posted. When I told her it was from Target she literally swatted her hands together in disbelief.
Me too, Sarah. I did too.

Don’t worry, friends.
I will get to The Shirt. I was wearing an understated button-down. The kind you hardly think twice about but really should because wow. *I was* standing there in a beige button-down shirt that was *actually plenty fabulous* despite coming from Target and costing me all of $27.99.
I was wearing it because I was at Target picking up diapers when Jackson pooped through his yet again. *Not browsing for clothing. * Hell was freezing over and Zachariah was wearing socks that moment when I spotted The Shirt hanging there on the rack calling to me under a dazzling little sign that read “SATIN.”I thought, oh hell yes, a satin shirt. Because why not live my best silky life? Then my responsible shopper persona clicked in and I read the price. $28.99.
Say what?!? ! I know, right? ! Fast-forward through me scanning the care instructions for shrinkage, googling how to properly wash satin, and digging through my coupons and I threw that shirt in my cart.
But here’s the thing. I’ve been trying (god, I sound like Martha Stewart) to slowly restock my closet with things that don’t look like I accidentally threw them on while giving up on adulthood circa 2017. Because let’s face it, when you have kids, your wardrobe kinda goes to shit.
Even if you’re super mom who does home workouts in spandex and actually remembers to put on pants before picking your kids up from school, your wardrobe just doesn’t exist in the same way it did pre-kids. Most of your clothes are too small. The ones that fit are covered in mysterious stains.
And the few残念的是,幼儿服装在这些品类中通常排名靠后。you actually want to wear are frumpy as hell. I’d been drooling over this olive green shirt from Madewell for MONTHS and had every intention of buying it once I had enough money in my “fun budget” to cover the $85 price tag. But here we were with my new favorite shirt.
At Target. And it was EVERYTHING. The color was this deep navy that complemented my post-partum tan like…breath smelled?
The material was more satin-y than any shirt I’d ever bought at Target. It didn’t have that cheap plastic look and feel like a toddler’s trash bag costume.Because let’s face it, Target clothes are great. *But they can also suck big ones. * The cuts are usually weird on me. Too fitted through the shoulders or hips.
Or just completely ignore my shape altogether. THIS shirt was not. It was busy being trendy and affordable, thank you very much.
I didn’t even try it on before buying it. Emma was having a full-on meltdown about needing a snack and I was trying to dodge any physical contact with her at that point. Moral of the story: the fit was perfection.
XSarently Target listened to me and thousands of other mom’s prayers. I tossed it with my typical uniform of black yoga pants and white sneakers and almost cried when I looked in the mirror. Like, holy shit, I kinda look like a human wearing that shirt!
My husband actually removed his headphones to comment on my new shirt when I stormed into the kitchen that afternoon. “Did you buy that new?” Boom. High fashion mom goals right there if you ask me. Fast-forward back to soccer practice.
Sarah asked me where I got it and two other moms joined in asking me about my new treasure within ten seconds of her spotting me. Did I mention I work at a daycare? Because full disclosure, these women might as well be family at this point.
Andrea wanted to know if it was from ABC store. You know, the one that sells expensive “ basics ” to suburban moms who don’t realize basics can be found at Target. Lauren was sure it was something I had ordered online from one of those stupid “Made in Italy” stores that all my blogger friends swear by.

When I told them it was from Target (internally dying because WHEN DO I LIVE MY LIFE NOW?) you should have heard the gasps. Lauren immediately dropped what she was doing and pulled out her phone to swipe through the Target app. Her kid was probably eating sand by this point but she didn’t care.
Within the hour I had THREE moms asking me for the exact style number and if it came in other colors. Truthfully, part of what makes this shirt so fantastic is attention to details most cheaper shirts don’t focus on. The buttons are actually covered with the same material rather than plastic.
They finished the seams so they wouldn’t unravel after two washes. But most of all, whoever was in charge of design at Target that day know WTF they were doing. Because this shirt fits oversized *but doesn’t look like a sack of potatoes. * It’s streamlined in certain areas to give your body some shape *but flows everywhere else. * Perfection, I tell you.
Another fun detail? The color. Obviously black, white, and gray will *never* go out of style but there are certain hues within those basics that just Look More Expensive.
If I had to describe this satin shirt’s color, I’d say it’s “rich.” It’s a deep blue with a purple tint that doesn’t fade into that flat blue you find on cheap shirts. Target even comes in a chic camel color that I went back for the very next week Target had in stock (yes, I’m blessed and cursed with too much free time), and dark green that will be my new go-to this fall. I’ve worn this shirt at least 15 times since purchasing it almost a month ago.
With jeans and white sneakers for drop-off. Tucked into my black skinnies with flats for school meetings. Over a camisole and shorts when we took the kids to Sea World last weekend.
It’s been delightful getting to know my new favorite shirt. My new styling hack? Rolling up the sleeves twice so they aren’t perfectly rolled like a collge tryhard.
Nothing but the top two buttons done up. Tucking the front of my shirt into my bottoms and letting the back texture just hang free. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
My story about this shirt got more interaction on Instagram than any DIY project I’ve ever posted. Come to find out I’m not the only mom scouring Pinterest and Instagram for clothethat make me feel somewhat put-togetherwithout breaking the bank. Hell, some of the comments came from moms who ordered this exact shirt from Amazon that same day trying to decide between white and beige!
I love when I can find treasures like this because it reminds me that you don’t have to spend hundreds on clothing toFeel Like You. I’ve seen so many of the chicest ladies mixing Target with thrifted goodies and maybe ONE designer bag they saved up for. But god forbid you wear an all-target outfit to meet your girlfriends because you’ll never see those moms out and about who spend THOUSANDS on a jersey dress and heels that are no winters off AbercrombieKids’ feet and look *less* put together than your casual $30 shirt.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love fashion. But motherhood kind of knocked that passion out of me for a hot minute there. Blogging has helped me get it back tenfold.
And finding a shirt that can take me from playground to school run, to date night with my husband and not feel cray-cray over is just the cherry on top. X-sized because it was so PERFECTOVERSIZED. *Straight up lied to me when they said this would be trendy for fall/winter. * Since washing in hot will shrink anything and probably Agnes too, I’ve been very science-ingally washing my shirt by hand and letting it air dry. I’m terrified of throwing it in our ancient washing machine and ruining it.
My mother laughs at me for “babying” a Target shirt. Buy it. Love it.
Protect it at all costs if it works for your life. And now it’s your turn.

Off you go!
Find that shirt and love it hard. Pro tip: Head to the Target website if your local store is out of stock (and probs will be since you’re reading this). They rotate their stock online so randomly, but I’ve become embarrassingly great at foreseeing Target’s stock trends.
So yes, I wore this Target shirt when I met up with my old coworkers from PR last week. They were in awe I “still had” clothes that weren’t from Target and I literally considered lying and telling them it was from J Crew. THREE people asked where I got it!
Moral of that story? Wear what makes YOU feel good, friends. Don’t let assholes tear you down for where you get your clothes.
But seriously guys, GO BUY THIS SHIRT. UGH, THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME LIVE MY DREAMS ON YOUR PLATFORM.<
